The official 42.20 "The Big Glow Up" announcement teased a set of new points of interest across the reworked Knox County — an abandoned orphanage, a brand-new prison, a boy scout camp, and a revamped logging compound — alongside the reworked towns and 400 procedural basements. These are the kind of destination POIs the map was built around: committed trips with real loot, not drive-bys. This guide collects what's officially known about each, where the map update puts them, and how to run them. Sources: the official 42.20 feature overview, the map guide, and community exploration reports. Checked 2026-08-09.

Honesty note: The Indie Stone teased these locations in the 42.20 announcement but did not publish exact coordinates or loot tables. This page collects official confirmations and community-reported placement — treat precise details as "verify in-world," and let exploration be part of the fun.

The abandoned orphanage

Officially confirmed in the 42.20 announcement as one of the new explorable locations. Community-reported observations:

  • Described in the announcement's tone as a "spooky" location — expect the classic horror-house POI treatment: dark interiors, tight corridors, and a loot profile that rewards the brave.
  • Media coverage of the 42.20 launch specifically called out the orphanage as the standout new POI alongside the "400 procedural basements."
  • Likely behavior: a set-piece building with a dedicated interior layout (rather than procedural), consistent with the "all buildings are now unique" 42.20 standard.

The entirely new Prison

The official announcement confirmed a brand-new prison among the new locations (the old maximum-security site was a B41 fixture; this is a new build). Expectations per community reports:

  • Prisons in PZ are high-density, high-loot structures: riot gear, weapons, food stores, and a lot of zombies.
  • On 42.20's heat-map, a prison is a probable hotspot — plan the route with the loot-routes guide discipline.

The boy scout camp

Also confirmed new. Scout camps pattern after the classic POI type: cabins, a mess hall, low-zombie rural surroundings, and outdoor/looting-oriented loot (tools, camping gear, food). Best framed as a medium-complexity wilderness trip — the kind the foraging guide and wilderness sections of the map guide prepare you for.

The revamped logging compound

The 42.20 announcement confirmed a revamped logging compound — an upgrade of an existing POI type rather than a new build. Expect:

  • Logging/lumberjacking loot: axes, fuel, heavy tools — the blacksmithing and base building chains both want this.
  • The revamp likely means more unique buildings and deeper interiors, per the 42.20 "all buildings unique" standard.

How to run new POIs

  • Treat them as mini-dungeons — committed trips with real loot, not side stops. The map guide frames the expansion's signature POIs exactly this way.
  • Plan the drive: the vehicles guide work-van advice makes the hauling practical.
  • Bring the right tools: a sledgehammer or crowbar for barricades, medical for the first-aid realities of a long trip, and food.
  • Expect the unexpected: new POIs on patch-week are where players find the fresh content first — coordinates and layouts shift while the community maps them.

The orphanage, new prison, boy scout camp and revamped logging compound are all confirmed by name in the official 42.20 announcement (July 28, 2026). Their exact placement, layouts and loot tables are not published by The Indie Stone; community exploration reports are still forming as of this writing. Treat all in-world details as authoritative-and-evolving, and check the in-game map for named locations.
